This week has been full of exciting activities and learning adventures in Year 1! Here’s a glimpse of what we’ve been up to:
Inspired by the book *The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch*, we’ve been busy channeling our inner chefs, designing our own delicious sandwiches to take to the beach! Our favorite fillings included ham, cheese, and jam, but the star of the show was definitely chocolate spread. We’re all set to make and taste our creative sandwich creations next week!
Our young pirates have been investigating which materials sink and which float. This hands-on experiment helped us determine the best materials to use for our upcoming pirate ships. We’ll be putting our newfound knowledge to the test next week as we begin designing our pirate ships! Additionally, in preparation for our ship designing, we’ve been learning about the different parts of a pirate ship. From the bow to the stern, and everything in between, we now have a good understanding of what to include in our designs to make them shipshape.
In Phonics, we focused on the ‘nk’ blend this week. The children practiced reading and writing words with this blend, enhancing their phonetic skills and vocabulary.
Today was Sports Day, and the children had a fantastic time participating in various races and events. The day was filled with excitement, laughter, and lots of energy. To top it all off, we enjoyed some refreshing ice lollies as a special treat in the afternoon. Thank you to all the parents for coming and showing your support. I will be adding some photos to Seesaw shortly.
Have a lovely weekend, Year 1! See you all next week for more fun and learning!
