Year 1: Weekly round up

In Year 1 this week we have been getting busier and busier! We are full steam head with our Christmas craft. This week we have managed to finished our four seasons calendar and made a great start with our Christmas cards. We have seen some really excellent writing and children are learning to include their finger spaces between words and trying hard to keep words on the line. Well done!

In Phonics we’ve been learning all about the letter ‘V’ and the sound it makes. It actually tickled our lips when we tried to make the sound really loudly! We thought of lots of words that start with the ‘V’ sound such as volcano, vacuum and van!

In Maths we’ve had fun learning about position and direction. We had to imagine we were in our very own Bakery and had to draw different items on the shelves. We had directions such as ‘draw an extra loaf of bread on the top shelf’ and ‘draw two gingerbread men next to the cake stand’. Some of us round this a little tricky at first, but then we talked about which words we needed to concentrate on that could help us draw items in the right place. Everyone did really well once we had all got the hang of it. Da iawn!

Next week we will be pressing on with our other Christmas craft and cards which the children are really enjoying making. We will also be putting the finishing touches to our Christmas concert! We’re really looking forward to preforming for you all! We will be doing a dress rehearsal on Wednesday for the older children in school. Then on Thursday it will be ‘Curtain calls’ and ‘Show time’! It’s going to be fantastic!!

Just as a reminder, there is no Tree Top Thursday until the new year, so children will need to come to school in their normal school uniforms. Also, some of Year 1 have come home today with a note which is just a reminder of things they will need for the Christmas concerts. If these things could be brought in to school on Monday 12th December it would be very much appreciated.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Wrap up and stay warm! Jack Frost has definitely come to visit!
