News: Summer Reading Challenge 2023

We have been asked to share this information and attached flyers from Ruabon Library.

Ruabon Library are excited to introduce ‘Ready, Set, Read’, the Summer Reading Challenge 2023 from the Reading Agency with the theme this year of sports and games.

The yearly reading challenge aims to support, promote and encourage children’s reading for pleasure over the summer holidays. As well as supporting literacy, reading is a fantastic way to have fun and promote mental wellbeing. Children can register for the Summer Reading Challenge at their local library. Each child will receive a sticker book to join the superstar team and their mascots as they follow a fictional obstacle course illustrated by children’s illustrator Loretta Schauer. They can collect stickers and prizes along the way during the challenge, with a certificate and medal awarded when then challenge is complete.

The reading challenge is for participants aged 4 -11, aiming to read 6 books and make 3 visits to their library over the course of the summer (this year’s challenge also includes a pre-school option). There are lots of free library and online activities also available. For anyone not a library member, the library is free to join for all the family (with proof of address).

To join in the challenge please call into the library or telephone 01978 822002 for more information. The library is open Monday, Wednesday & Friday 12 – 5, Thursday 9 – 1.15, CLOSED Tuesdays. Staff will be more than happy to help.
