I am contacting you from your local Neighbourhood Policing Team to ask for your support in raising awareness around the use of privately owned e-scooters.
We are seeing an increase in e-scooters being used within our communities, including by children and young people. With Christmas only a few months away, we are keen to make sure parents
and carers understand the law before considering purchasing an e-scooter as a Christmas present.
Privately owned e-scooters cannot legally be used on public roads, pavements, cycle paths or other public places. Their use is restricted to private land with the landowner’s permission.
I have attached information leaflets explaining the law and would be grateful if you could share this with parents and carers through your usual communication channels, such as your school
app, newsletters, email or social media.
We hope that by getting this information out ahead of Christmas, families can make informed decisions and avoid buying an e-scooter without realising where it can legally be used.
