Year 6: A good week/Next week

Our final half term has got off to a good start! We have worked hard in Maths this week, using different methods for adding and subtracting decimal numbers. We have re-written a chapter of ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’ from the perspective of a different character and enjoyed presenting a role play as part of our planning for writing. We were excited to cheer on the participants of the ladies world cycling tour on Thursday. To top it all off, the Cricket Festival today was great – the sun shone, all pupils participated and behaved brilliantly and were perfect ambassadors for St Mary’s school – da iawn pawb! It was lovely to be able to take part in such an event.
Next week, many of the class will be taking part in Bikeability sessions – please refer to previous emails regarding items needed and drop-off places and times for the pupils’ bikes etc. Please be aware that the sessions will still go ahead should there be light rain, so it would be advisable for pupils taking part to make sure they have a waterproof jacket to wear, just in case.
Our Maths focus next week will be calculating averages, including mean, mode, median and range. We may also work on reading and interpreting line graphs and pie charts. #AmbitiousCapableLearners. We will  spend time making the cuddly toys that we have designed for an evacuee or refugee child. #EnterprisingCreativeContributors. We will spend lots of time next week completing challenges, as suggested by pupils on our topic launch day.
We will also revisit using Adobe Creative, this time to create presentations all about World War 2.
On Friday next week, we will have our Glass Workshop. We can’t wait to see what the pupils will create.
Pupils have been given a Maths sheet for homework this week, which will help to consolidate this week’s learning. Please remember that reading books need to be returned by Thursday.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
