Year 5: Weekly update

Hello,
We have had another great start to the week and are enjoying our work and activities in class. I would also like to say a big thank you for your continued support and for returning you home reading books on time. I really appreciate it 😊
In maths we have completed our previous focus which included the following skills:
  • Comparing numbers with decimals using < and >
  • Multiplying whole numbers by 10 and 100
  • Dividing whole numbers by 10 and 100
  • Multiplying and dividing numbers with up to two decimal places by 10 and 100
  • Ordering numbers with two decimal places
  • Count up and back in tenths and hundredths
Next, we will be beginning our work on multiplication.

In English this week we have been selecting adjectives to complete sentences. We have also read the next chapter of our class reader book which we found quite scary!
Tomorrow we will be following witch recipes to make some different magic potions, before writing our own magic formula recipes.

In RE we have been studying harvest. We made a harvest loaf last week and this week we designed and made our own harvest banners.
In Welsh we prescribed some of the new language that will appear in our first story.

In topic we used the iPads to find information about why water is important for our bodies. We have also started an investigation about the sugar content in different drinks, which will be completed this week.

We have been getting creative and making photo frames to display the amazing oil pastel pictures based on the works of Gwilym Prichard. I will post some photos of this at the end of the day.

A quick reminded that it’s PE day tomorrow so could all pupils come to school wearing outdoor PE kit? Diolch 😊

A homework task has been put on Google classroom which is linked to work from class. The pupils have been attaching the drafts from their workbooks so they can access them at home to use when writing their final draft.
Any problems with this, just comment and I will help as much as I can.

Well done for another fantastic start to the week, we have been doing lots of hard work but having lots of fun too! We hope you’re all well,

Miss Harper and Mrs Edwards
